The Manchester Conservation Commission announced a community conservation tour of the Manchester Cedar Swamp scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 6. The commission said The Nature Conservancy will assist with promotion; the commission has prepared a flyer and a press release and will distribute both through city and partner channels.
Commission members said cooler spring weather delayed peak rhododendron bloom this year and they chose July 6 to increase the chance of seeing blooms, though no one guaranteed peak flowering. The commission plans to have an on‑site contact from The Nature Conservancy—Ally Snell has participated in past tours and can provide background about the preserve—and the group said it would prepare recorded or printed interpretive information if no live interpreter is available.
Jennifer (staff) is coordinating the press release distribution and will submit it to the mayor’s office but the commission also plans to publish releases and the event on its own channels to ensure timely promotion. Commissioners discussed additional promotion through the Union Leader and alternative local outlets such as the Hippo and social media. The commission will provide paper flyers for members who want to distribute them by hand.
Logistics discussed included limited parking at the preserve, the possibility of carefully parking along the roadside where done previously if lot capacity is exceeded, and bringing a portable voice amplifier for group interpretation. The group also discussed contingency planning (audio tour excerpts, having a walk leader) if no in‑person interpreter is available.
The commission encouraged members to cross‑promote the event on personal and organizational social media; The Nature Conservancy agreed to help publicize the tour. The event is intended as a public outreach opportunity and a chance for residents to see the preserve and learn about its history and natural features.
No permit or vote was required to schedule the tour; the commission will publish a flyer and press release and handle outreach coordination in the coming days.
