During the public-comment portion of the meeting a commenter asked the Type B board to increase the city's sponsorship for the Keene Chamber banquet and separately requested modest seed funding to record oral histories of longtime area residents.
The commenter said the chamber banquet, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13, currently includes a Type B sponsorship of one table at $750 and requested the board increase that to $1,000 to cover rising costs for catering and entertainment. The commenter said several local businesses have increased their sponsorships and asked the board to consider matching that increase; the banquet was described as sold out and the tickets would be distributed on Thursday.
The commenter also proposed launching a "Keene Living Pioneers" oral-history project to capture memories of longtime residents while they are still living. The commenter said local videographers quoted $125 per interview but requested $300 from the board to start, with an initial interview proposed for a named local pioneer. "What I'm going to ask you for to get started is $300 and we would start probably with Booger Putnam," the commenter said.
Board members responded that because the banquet takes place before the board's next meeting, the board could not officially increase its sponsorship amount at the meeting and would consider the request at a subsequent meeting or retrospectively approve it after the fact. Staff confirmed the board will revisit the sponsorship request at the next meeting.
No formal action was taken at the meeting on either request.
