The Keene Type B board approved Daniel to serve as vice president and tabled consideration of several applications for future board vacancies after discussing a recently adopted City of Keene appointment policy.
Board members nominated and approved Daniel to fill the Type B board vice president vacancy during the meeting. A motion to appoint Daniel was seconded and the board voted to approve the nomination.
The board discussed multiple applications that had been submitted for vacancies on the board and reviewed a packet item noting the council had recently passed a new appointment policy that limits council members from serving on boards or commissions (local council policy). Staff told the board that a council member cannot serve on a board or commission under the new policy and that the council will consider and approve final appointments.
Because of questions about applicant eligibility and recent changes in the appointment policy, the board voted to table action on several applications and to recruit additional candidates. "Well, I'll ask I'll ask the question that I've been that every time mister Jackson, every time your name comes up, this is always brought up... I was told repeatedly every time your name pops up that you publicly say that you went you were you actively wished the 4 b board and the 4 a board were disbanded," a board member said while seeking clarification from an applicant; the applicant said he was answering candidate questions and offered options rather than seeking to disband the board.
What’s next: staff will provide the board with additional candidate names to consider, include any required disclosures per the new appointment policy and bring appointment recommendations to the council for final approval.
