Board approves high school and middle school Beta Club overnight convention trips to Nashville

The Hickman County Board of Education approved requests for two overnight student trips to the Tennessee State Beta Club Convention at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.
Hickman County High School Beta Club president Catherine Qualls requested permission for high school students to attend the convention November 20–21 (departing early Friday and returning Saturday) with three chaperones (Kristen Carter, Shelley Mahoney and Shaw Moss). Qualls said the high school has raised the necessary funds and that no school funds would be used; she described the convention as an academic and leadership opportunity and noted it is the high school’s first time competing at state.
Lehi McCord presented the middle-school request for 30 students and five chaperones to attend the convention November 23–25. The middle-school presenters described the opportunity to compete, meet other students across the state, and further leadership skills.
Board members moved and approved both trip requests by voice vote. A board member wished both groups well.
