The Harrington City Commission closed a public hearing and finalized the closeout of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) emergency grant that funded replacement aeration blowers at the city wastewater treatment facility.
City staff and Flint Hills Regional Council helped administer the grant, which paid for replacement equipment and temporary rentals while blowers were repaired or replaced. Staff reported the CDBG award reimbursed roughly $94,413 in eligible expenditures; the city covered a small overage of $1,110.64 because the amendment process for the grant was restrictive.
City staff said the Aurizon-brand blowers installed are compatible with planned Phase 2 sewer renovation work and may remain in place as part of the permanent system. Staff also said the Department of Commerce concluded the project complied with state and federal program requirements and the grant closeout paperwork can proceed.
The commission opened the closeout public hearing at 7:00 p.m., received no public comments, and closed the hearing about one minute later. Staff will submit the affidavit of publication and required closeout documentation as part of the grant file.
