HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. — At the Hampton Bays Union Free School District Board of Education business meeting on Oct. 21, district staff presented a threat‑assessment briefing from the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center and described the district’s participation in a multi‑partner ‘‘Handle With Care’’ program for East End high schools.
The presentation, delivered during the meeting’s regular agenda, outlined recent work with local police and university partners. A district staff member said, "It's been about 8 years, I think, since we've had a threat assessment presentation at the Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center," and described the ‘‘Handle With Care’’ effort as a continuing program across Southampton and adjoining communities.
The staff member characterized the program as a three‑way partnership involving high schools on the East End, local police and Southampton University and said the district participated in a pilot of the initiative last semester. The staff member added that the partnership with police "continues to become more sophisticated." The presentation segment did not include a formal board vote on policy or funding for the initiative.
