Ellis County officials report building renovations, CIC open house and early voting at Oct. 21 meeting

During routine administrative reports Oct. 21, Ellis County officials provided several updates on county operations, facility repairs and elections.
Commissioners and staff said they attended an open house for the Community Intervention Center (CIC) and described the new facility as a potentially important local resource for mental-health care. One commissioner also reported attending Midwest Energy’s annual meeting.
County staff described progress on renovations to the county building. Myers and other staff said carpet installation and epoxy flooring work are complete, the hallway seal coat was applied and crews are finishing bathroom framing and waiting on moisture-resistant sheetrock. Staff said the contractor is blending older and newer epoxy surfaces to reduce visible discoloration, and that a custodial/contractor crew is scrubbing floors ahead of final touches. Staff also said they received an insurance reimbursement and that their insurer, K Camp, has confirmed coverage for destroyed desks, computers and storage containers minus the county deductible; the city’s insurance department is coordinating on shared losses related to the joint facility.
On site work, the parking lot crack sealing is finished and striping is expected soon; a small erosion issue at a ditch by the 4-way stop near Highway 183 that carries a forced sewer main was raised and county staff were asked to obtain a cost estimate for repairs.
Elections staff reported early voting began Oct. 20, running weekdays 8 a.m.–4 p.m. through the two-week early-voting period; additional weekend hours were scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m.–noon. Early voting was set to end at noon on the Monday before Election Day, with Election Day polling at regular precinct locations.
