Commission approves senior center HVAC repairs; facilities hiring setback and jail invoice flagged for CIP funding

The Geary County Commission approved repairs to HVAC supply ductwork at the senior center and received several facilities updates, including a staffing setback and a billing issue tied to jail design work.
TCA submitted a proposal to demolish and replace deteriorated supply air ducting and associated insulation and install new 24-by-24 lay-in supply ducts. The proposal total is $16,800; commissioners approved the TCA repair and asked that the work be paid from the facility fund. The senior center building committee has agreed to pay $6,400 toward the replacement ceiling tiles.
Separately, the county reported that a candidate selected for the facilities manager assistant/administrator position declined the offer before the planned Oct. 20 start date. The county will re-advertise the position.
Finance noted an invoice from HMN Architects for phase 2 jail services in the amount of $9,006.79. Staff said the commission previously approved $15,000 for HMN on Dec. 30, 2024, but had not explicitly recorded the funding source at that time; finance recommended the $15,000 be charged to the CIP cash flow and that the $9,006.79 invoice be paid from available CIP funds. Staff said they would update the CIP cash flow statement accordingly.
The commission also was briefed on a Honeywell licensing subscription proposal to upgrade courthouse and detention center HVAC controllers; the quote totaled $1,950 per building ($3,900 total). The county gave approval for that licensing subscription to be funded through the facility fund.
The motions on the senior center HVAC repair were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The HMN invoice discussion resulted in staff direction to update the CIP cash-flow statement and remit payment from CIP funds.
