Commission accepts $67,000 high bid for former Brookville fire station with contingency

The Saline County commission on Oct. 21 publicly opened five bids for the former Brookville Fire Station and authorized sale to the highest and best bidder with a contingency to the second highest bidder if the sale fails to close.
Deputy County Administrator Hannah Bet said the county followed the public‑notice process required by statute and disclosed that the county appraisal value was $50,100. Bids read aloud during the meeting were: City of Brookville $15,000; Gillum $5,275; Brown $15,600; Fitzwater $67,000; Hanson $34,750.
The commission moved to accept Fitzwater’s $67,000 bid as the highest and best and added a contingency that if that sale does not close, the county would accept the Hanson bid of $34,750. Commissioners noted bids are final and that the county may have to return to the next highest bidder if the highest fails to close. Staff recommended the buyer be responsible for all closing costs, surveys and inspections, and that sale proceeds be deposited into the fire district special equipment account. The motion passed by voice vote.
