A commissioner read updates on behalf of Veterans Service Officer Chris, who was in Bismarck for accreditation training.
The report said the VSO office was closed for the week while staff attended training and that the office remains responsive to veterans despite the closure. An after-action summary from a September stand-down event at Broadway Square described substantial participation from veterans and multiple vendors and organizations providing information and referrals.
The report listed several outreach and assistance partnerships and resources: monthly eligibility coordination with the VA, a new housing partner (Semper Fi and America's Fund) to help keep veterans housed, assistance for government-shutdown impacts (housing, food and utilities), coordination with the Army and National Guard to assist personnel on both sides of the river, and referrals to United Community Action Partners in Minnesota for rent, mortgage assistance, food shelves and other services. The North Dakota Homeowner Assistance Fund and other public/private programs were also identified as available resources.
The reading emphasized staff dedication to veteran services and noted the benefits of accreditation and outreach for continuing those services.
