Geary County Commission approves updated interlocal agreement with regional juvenile detention center

The Geary County Commission on Oct. 20 approved an updated interlocal cooperation agreement with the regional juvenile detention center and the other counties that participate on the board.
Commissioner Cathy (first name given in the meeting) asked to add the agreement to the agenda and a commissioner moved to accept the revised interlocal agreement. Another commissioner seconded; the chair called for the vote and commissioners voiced approval.
Commissioners said each county on the detention board had reviewed the updated agreement. The commission also noted the agreement will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for legal review. One commissioner said, in discussion, that if all participating counties approve the updated agreement the county will sign on behalf of Geary County.
No dollar amounts or changes to cost-sharing formulas were discussed on the record at the meeting. The commission scheduled the item for the next board meeting on Nov. 19 if any further action by participating counties is required.
The motion carried by voice vote; the meeting record shows unanimous “aye” responses but does not list a roll-call tally in the transcript.
Commissioners did not identify any unresolved legal concerns during the discussion and said staff (county administration and counsel) would handle the Attorney General submission and any follow-up.
