Atchison County commissioners approve routine consent items, sports-complex payment and resolution to void old checks

Atchison County commissioners handled multiple routine and fiscal items during their Oct. 21 meeting, approving the agenda and minutes, authorizing final payment for a sports-complex contract, passing a resolution to void checks older than two years, and receiving the county EMS report for September.

Key votes and outcomes: The board approved the meeting agenda and multiple sets of minutes by voice vote. The commissioners approved a final payment of $8,009.26 to Grand Slam Safety (New York) for completion of batting cages at the Atchison sports complex; the payment was charged to the quarter-cent sales tax allocation for the sports complex and the site balance for the Atchison complex was reported as zero following the disbursement. The motion passed 3–0.

The board also passed a resolution authorizing the voiding and cancellation of outstanding checks dated from 2021 through Oct. 18, 2023, citing K.S.A. 10-8-15. The total of checks listed for cancellation in the supporting attachments was $881.34; the motion passed 3–0. The county’s finance director said the attachments and the statutory citation were included with the resolution.

Finally, commissioners received and filed the September EMS report, which the county summarized as 219 total calls for September (153 911 responses, 56 transfers, 10 standbys/others). The board voted to receive and file the report 3–0.

Routine procedural items: The consent agenda and two sets of meeting minutes were approved; the consent agenda included payroll and accounts payable items described earlier in the meeting.
