Nevada schools plan Fine and Performing Arts Hall of Fame; nominations open through Dec. 31

Dustin, the district athletic director, told the Nevada Community School District Board of Education that the district is creating a Fine and Performing Arts Hall of Fame and is circulating draft bylaws and selection criteria ahead of public nominations.
The district will accept nominations through Dec. 31 and hold a selection meeting in January, Dustin said. For the first five years the plan is to induct one person from each of six disciplines annually — band, choir, drama, speech, art and dance — for a total of six inductees per year during that initial period.
Dustin said the committee will include one representative from each of the six disciplines, the music parents’ president (or a designee), the Nevada High School principal and the NHS athletic director, producing a nine-voter panel. He said the speech coach, Sarah Vody, volunteered to handle administrative tasks for the Hall of Fame, a role comparable to what Kirsten Weber performs for the athletics hall of fame.
Dustin told the board he had contacted Eric Tideman (art teacher) and Coach Sansgard (dance) and that both supported expanding the athletics-focused recognition into a broader Fine and Performing Arts Hall of Fame. Nominations will be posted on a district webpage modeled on the athletics site, Dustin said; he asked staff members Carrie and Joe to help publish it and said he hoped it could go live that week.
Committee members and Dustin stressed that nomination criteria are only the starting point for discussion and do not guarantee induction. "Being nominated or being qualified for nomination doesn't necessarily make you a hall of famer," Dustin said, describing a separate committee standard that nominees must meet before induction. He said the committee will review and may revise the draft bylaws after the first meeting.
Dustin said the district plans to vary induction events so they are not always tied to the same concert or event, suggesting the ceremony rotate among different performances — for example, one year during the musical and another at Festival of the Bands.
No formal board action on the Hall of Fame was taken during the meeting; Dustin said the work will become a recurring calendar item once the initial pieces are set.
The district will begin accepting nominations once the webpage is live and will follow the committee process as described.
