The Operations Management, Budget and Government Accountability Committee voted Oct. 21 to forward the mayor’s nomination of Talia Neves to the Hartford Ethics Commission to the full City Council with a favorable recommendation.
Talia Neves introduced herself to the committee and described her background as a registered nurse with experience on ethics boards and committees at several health care organizations. "I am super passionate about ethics," Neves said, adding that she has shadowed the city ethics commission and attended national ethics conferences.
Majority Leader TJ Clark and Councilman Alex Thomas each welcomed Neves and thanked her for volunteering. Clark noted the work of the commission can be a substantial commitment and encouraged Neves to reach out for support. Thomas said Neves’s hospital ethics experience is relevant to the commission’s work.
A committee member moved to send the nomination to council with a favorable recommendation; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The committee chair said the nomination will be taken up by the full council at its next meeting, after which the appointment would be finalized.
