City manager: business symposium set for Nov. 3; county declines transfer-station proposal; sister-city delegation visits this weekend

City Manager Scott provided several administrative updates to the commission.
He reminded commissioners that the city’s business symposium is scheduled for Nov. 3 at 8:30 a.m., with free registration and lunch included. Scott said roughly 780 people had registered at the time of the meeting. The manager also said a community feedback survey for the Camp Leavenworth site remains open for three more days.
Scott told the commission that the county commission decided not to pursue asking the city to take over the county transfer station; as a result the city will continue with its previously discussed consolidation-station plan at the Gilman Road site.
Scott and other commissioners also recapped a recent sister-city delegation trip. He named the visiting delegation as "Jumihachiman" (as stated in the meeting) and described exchanges on economic development, industry and flood planning. He said the sister city has stockyards that generate revenue for the municipality, parks, a zoo, and a multimodal business park; he reported the sister city’s population at roughly 70,000. Commissioners invited the visiting delegation to local events including a dinner and a football viewing gathering planned for the weekend.
No formal actions were taken during the updates; items were informational and will inform future commission work and outreach.
