At its Oct. 21 meeting the West Warwick Town Council voted to appoint the law firm Ursillo, Teets & Ritz Ltd. as special legal counsel, with the firm to become town solicitor upon the current solicitor’s retirement effective July 1, 2026.
At its Oct. 21 meeting the West Warwick Town Council voted to appoint the law firm Ursillo, Teets & Ritz Ltd. to serve as special legal counsel for litigation and other matters and to assume the town solicitor role when the current solicitor retires on July 1, 2026.
The council approved a motion that names Ursillo, Teets & Ritz Ltd. (UTR) as special legal counsel “effective 07/01/2026,” and directs that UTR serve as the town solicitor upon the retirement of the current solicitor. The motion includes language allowing the town manager and council to arrange a transition period, including joint attendance at council meetings, to facilitate succession.
A representative of Ursillo, Teets & Ritz Ltd. thanked the council after the vote and said the firm is “looking forward to serving the town.” Council members approved the appointment by voice vote; the motion was carried on an affirmative voice vote recorded in the meeting.
The council noted the change follows the impending retirement of the town solicitor after more than two decades of service. The motion permits the town manager and council to establish a transition period in advance of the effective date to ensure continuity of legal services.
The appointment is effective July 1, 2026, and town officials said they may call on the current solicitor for second opinions as needed during the transition period.
