The change order, described to commissioners as an internal reallocation of existing project funds rather than a request for additional money, passed unanimously. "We're not asking for additional funds," a county staff member said, adding the request shifts leftover dollars from furniture and IT line items into the construction fund to cover the sprinkler modifications.
The county elections office also updated commissioners on early voting. A clerk's office representative told the board early voting began at eight locations and the office processed just over 1,000 ballots the first day of early voting. The representative said turnout for this contest is expected to be about 25 to 30 percent, and that the elections operation is standing up 189 precincts at 132 polling locations.
Commissioners voted to approve the change order after staff explained that inspectors reviewing the project near completion identified additional required modifications to the fire protection system. The staff member said those modifications were not called out in the original plans but can be covered by moving funds between line items within the project budget.
The motion to approve Change Order No. 1 for the ARPA-funded elections office and warehouse remodel was made and seconded on the record; the chairman called for the vote and the motion carried.
The elections office representative also invited commissioners to a ribbon-cutting to view the remodel once scheduling permits. The representative said the office will continue two weeks of early voting at the eight locations and that staff are "full blown" preparing as election day approaches.
No additional funding was requested or approved during the session; commissioners authorized the chair to sign documents related to the approved change order on the county's behalf.
