Council approves plans and $165,000 estimate for Eighteenth Street SE drainage repairs

The Lamar City Council on Oct. 21 adopted a resolution approving plans, specifications, the form of contract and an estimate of $165,000 for the Eighteenth Street Southeast Drainage Repair Project.
The project, described by staff during a public hearing, calls for additional storm sewer intakes and upsizing of existing infrastructure along Eighteenth Street SE. The city set a bid opening for Nov. 6, 2025, at 1 p.m., with council award scheduled Nov. 18, 2025. Staff said the work is expected to be completed within 20 working days once started and included a stipulation that if contractors begin work in the current year they must complete it in that same year; if not, the project may begin in the spring.
The administration recommended council approval and identified the stormwater fund as the funding source. Council adopted the resolution (recorded as Resolution No. 2550 in the meeting transcript) by roll-call vote; the motion carried.
Council members and staff also discussed whether the repairs would affect the site of a planned new elementary school; staff said the drainage work is east of the school site and is not expected to affect that location. The council directed staff to proceed with advertising for bids under the approved plans and specifications.
