Lamar council approves plans and cost estimate for Crossroads Commons commercial project

The Lamar City Council on Oct. 21 adopted a resolution approving plans, specifications, the form of contract and a cost estimate of $3,682,479 for the Southwest Commercial Development Project, a commercial development the city has named Crossroads Commons.
The administration recommended council approval after a public hearing with no speakers. The council set a proposed schedule that includes a bid opening in mid-November and an anticipated project completion in November 2026. Council members voted in favor of the resolution by roll call; the motion carried.
The resolution (No. 2549) authorizes the city to advertise the project for bids. Council discussion included a note that bids will be solicited and that a development agreement between LBIC and the city will return to the council for approval if the project proceeds. City staff identified a preliminary plat will go to PNC on Oct. 28 for related review.
Mayor (unnamed) opened and closed the required public hearing after no members of the public came forward to comment. Jason (city staff) noted that “that plat preliminary is going to PNC on the October 28.”
Next steps are for the city to issue the bid package and receive responses; a development agreement and formal award are expected to come to council at a later meeting for final approval.
