"We're ahead of schedule on our meeting," said Kelly (identified in the meeting as a staff presenter), who described plant improvements and cleaner, more orderly facilities compared with prior years. Kelly urged councilmembers to schedule tours of wastewater facilities to see the improvements firsthand and better understand ongoing maintenance and potential capital needs.
Councilmembers and other staff echoed the recommendation that site visits help nontechnical council members grasp the scale and function of wastewater equipment. One councilmember said the improvements made staff "proud of their work," and multiple speakers recalled a period when outsourcing had been considered and praised the decision to keep operations in-house.
No formal action or vote was required; staff said budgeting and possible engineering review could be next steps as the city continues longer-term planning for wastewater assets.
