Harrison Swift, newly appointed director of economic development for the AIMS Regional Economic Alliance, presented a quarter-three report and a handout to the council summarizing recent activity.
Swift said the Iowa Economic Development Authority approved workforce housing tax credits supporting the Prairie Place project; Phase II of Prairie Place is planned to build 24 units and was awarded $323,393 in workforce housing tax credits. He said the credits will help support that phase of the project.
Swift also reviewed market statistics for September 2025 comparing them with September 2024: he reported a median sale price of $225,000, a 15.4% increase year-over-year, and 35 closed sales (a 5.4% decrease). He said active inventory had increased substantially (a reported 107.6% increase) and listed available sites and buildings. Swift also highlighted upcoming events and local marketing metrics included in his handout.
Why it matters: The workforce housing tax credit aids a 24-unit project and is a direct subsidy mechanism intended to promote development; changing market indicators (rising median price, rising inventory) provide local context for housing and economic policy decisions.
Provenance: See transcript block where the economic development director presented the quarter-three report and described Prairie Place tax credits.
