Meeker County commissioners voted to award a bridge replacement contract and approved a slate of land‑use and interim‑use permits during their regular meeting.
The board unanimously approved awarding contract SB47634012 for Set 34 — a replacement of a 1963 timber bridge over the North Fork of the Crow River north of Litchfield — to Structural Specialties of Hutchinson, Minnesota, for an estimated $1,852,555.61. County staff told commissioners the low bid was close to the county engineer’s estimate and that the project has outside funding: $400,000 in federal on‑system funds and approximately $717,000 from a state bridge bond grant.
The board also approved multiple conditional and interim use permits presented by the county’s land‑use director:
- Conditional Use Permit 16679 (Paul and Theresa Bender) — shoreline stabilization on Lake Minnebel to add riprap, sand and create a shoreline buffer; materials to be moved and added were described in the packet and in the presentation. Motion carried.
- Conditional Use Permit 16672 (Jeff and Kelly Johnson) — shoreline erosion stabilization on Lake Minnebel, including three boulder walls, steps and engineered stabilization; materials and the need for engineered solutions were noted. Motion carried.
- Conditional Use Permit 16656 (Trevor Larson and Darren Malcek, Elite Stainless) — allow a welding and fabrication shop serving the dairy and food processing industries in an A‑1 agricultural preservation district with limited customer traffic; the business currently employs about 10–14 people and plans a future 40-by-60 addition. Motion carried.
- Interim Use Permit 16655 (Lacey McCann, North Fork Child Care) — a Level 2 family daycare at an Eden Valley address with stated hours Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.; motion carried.
- Interim Use Permit 16674 (concrete and materials recycling, Haplock Pit) — renewal of an existing concrete and materials recycling operation on a site historically known as the Haplock Pit; the site is required to meet minimum separation above groundwater. Motion carried.
Board members also approved a county action to amend the local MFIP plan for 2025 to expand emergency‑assistance uses of funding in case federal or state benefits are not issued. That amendment passed by voice vote.
All motions were made, seconded and carried by voice vote; no roll‑call tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Votes provenance (transcript excerpts): topic introduction and final confirmation spans are recorded in the meeting transcript for each item; examples include the Set 34 bridge discussion starting with the project presentation and an award motion (excerpt: “consider awarding our set 34 bridge replacement…”) and the motion being carried (“Motion carries.”). Shoreline and other land‑use items were presented by Land Use Director Greg Schultz and then moved and passed by the board.
