The New Canaan Town Council approved the minutes of its Sept. 17, 2025 regular meeting on Oct. 15 after agreeing to a one-line amendment to correct a salary calculation.
Councilmembers noted an inconsistency in the draft minutes regarding a salary increase figure. The minutes contained two figures — 5.575% and 5.75% — and several members said the correct composite increase discussed previously was 5.575% (two sequential 2.75% increases resulting in a compounded increase of approximately 5.575% over two years). "I move to approve the minutes for the regular meeting held on 09/17/2025 as amended to reflect what we voted on, which is a 5.575 increase to the first selectman's salary," Councilmember Hillary Orman said during the Oct. 15 meeting.
After the amendment was stated, the council voted to approve the minutes as amended.
Councilmembers directed staff to ensure payroll and check signers verify the compounding math when implementing the increase, and to make the amended figure uniform in the minutes record.
