Public works staff said the work involves excavating around existing footings, reinforcing them and adding purlins where needed so the new steel columns will have adequate support. A structural engineer prepared the design the contractor will follow.
Budget context: the presenter said the purchase of the steel building itself and earlier work put the project in a neighborhood of roughly $140,000 for the building plus approximately $18,000 for demolition already contracted. The footing contract is the third contract tied to the project; additional costs remain possible depending on decisions about a freestanding mezzanine and other site work.
Board members asked for a consolidated cost summary; staff agreed to email a summary of total costs and expected outstanding items so the board could track the overall budget-to-completion number.
The motion to award the Hussey Brothers contract for $39,375 plus contingency passed unanimously.
