Larimer County panel endorses Wellington growth management area overlay, to await intergovernmental agreement

The Larimer County Planning Commission voted Oct. 15 to recommend a legislative zoning amendment that would adopt a Wellington Growth Management Area (GMA) overlay zone district on the county zoning maps, subject to final execution of an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) between Larimer County and the Town of Wellington.
Principal planner Matt Lafferty told commissioners the overlay is meant to align county land‑use review for unincorporated properties adjacent to Wellington with the town’s comprehensive plan and to establish common standards for roads, drainage, annexation procedures and infrastructure management. "This GMA overlay zone district will be in alignment with an intergovernmental agreement that is currently being negotiated between the town and the county," Lafferty said.
