The Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners approved a broad slate of appointments and reappointments to county boards and commissions, agreed to letters of support for local wildfire mitigation grant applications, and scheduled a National Preparedness Month proclamation for its Sept. 16 meeting. At the end of the public session the commissioners moved, seconded and approved a motion to go into executive session to discuss two legal matters.
Board and commission actions approved by consensus or voice included: a correction to the finance corporation term length (to a six-year term expiring 09/30/2029), reappointments and new appointments to the Board of Adjustment (reappointment of Greg Johnson), Jefferson County Corrections Board (primary appointment Cameron Lundstrom; alternate Timothy Allport; additional appointments and reappointments from partner agencies), Engineering Advisory Board (appointment of Erin Boucher as geotechnical engineer representative), Historical Commission reappointments (Lee Katrin and Richard Gardner), Finance Corporation (reappointment of Joanne Kortendick to a full six-year term), the Jefferson County Opioid Task Force reappointments and staggered terms, Jeffco Wildfire Commission reappointments and municipal/foothills slots, Liquor Licensing Authority reappointments, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District recommendation (appointment of Lisonbee Sheck recommended by SCFD staff) and Tri-County Workforce Development Board appointments and reappointments.
Connor, Jefferson County's community corrections coordinator, briefed the board on Corrections Board candidates and noted the county is intentionally appointing people with lived experience to some seats. County staff said vacancies remain on several panels and that special-application rounds will reopen for additional applicants.
On wildfire mitigation, commissioners agreed to provide letters of support for two community applications: the Enclave Homeowners Association (juniper-removal defensible-space work) and, pending staff clearance, the Mount Vernon Country Club Metropolitan District project for hazardous-fuel mitigation near Clear Creek Canyon. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate letters with county wildfire and sheriff's office staff to avoid duplication and ensure technical alignment with state grant administrators.
Staff requested and received board support to issue a proclamation recognizing National Preparedness Month; the proclamation and remarks by the county emergency director are scheduled for the Sept. 16 meeting.
At the close of the public session a commissioner moved to convene executive session to obtain legal advice and discuss negotiations under Colorado open-meetings exceptions for the Jefferson Parkway Public Highway Authority matter (statutory citations discussed in meeting) and for a head start program facilities/lease matter. The motion was seconded and carried without recorded opposition; commissioners directed staff to hold the executive session and begin with the head start matter.
The board did not take recorded roll-call votes for the appointments in the public session; most items were approved by unanimous voice/consensus with staff and commissioners indicating "all in support" or giving thumbs-up confirmations during the meeting.
