Jefferson County staff updated the Board of County Commissioners on two proposed opioid-manufacturer settlement opportunities and recommended the board place a related resolution on an upcoming consent agenda for formal approval.
"We have been involved in litigation since 2019 with manufacturers," staff member Eric Butler told commissioners during a brief presentation. He said one proposed settlement involves Purdue and the Sackler family and the other involves eight smaller opioid manufacturers; both are offered as part of a national resolution structure that would distribute funds to state and local governments.
Butler provided county estimates from the national settlement projection, saying the two settlements would "provide 3,378,000 to and just shy of a 1,000,000 to Jefferson County." He recommended a resolution to accept the county's share be scheduled for the consent agenda at an upcoming meeting so commissioners could vote to participate.
No formal vote was taken during the briefing; staff indicated they would prepare a resolution for the consent agenda and return with the formal approval item.
