Board OKs $750,000 increase to concrete curb and gutter contract ahead of 2026 paving

Jefferson County Development and Transportation staff told commissioners on June 10 they are seeking permission to raise an existing single‑source contract limit for concrete curb and gutter replacement from $4,000,000 to $4,750,000.
Staff said the increase is needed to undertake concrete replacement in advance of the 2026 road overlay program because concrete work must be completed roughly a year before paving. Mike (Development and Transportation) told commissioners the anticipated levy revenue next year will enable the county to complete more overlay work, but the concrete must be fixed first to avoid redoing work.
Commissioners asked whether the increase was driven by price inflation; staff replied the primary driver is the need to complete more concrete ahead of planned paving rather than price increases. Commissioners voted in support of the increase and asked staff to place the item on the business and consent agenda for final approval.
