Jefferson County names new corrections board member; advisory committee recommendations advanced

Sarah Bridal, who led the update, said the county needed to fill two board vacancies and recommended Sarah Alquist for the corrections board seat vacated after Kiara’s resignation from the Jefferson Center for Mental Health. Bridal noted Alquist’s role with the Jefferson Center for Mental Health; commissioners voiced support and recorded the action as approved by all three members present.
County staff also reported receipt of “12 or 13” applications for the Budget Retention Advisory Committee and presented a slate of nine recommended members. Mike (last name not provided) explained the steering committee’s process: recommendations aimed to achieve geographic representation (at least two members from each commissioner district) and to include two ex officio members—chairs of the audit and advisory committees—whose terms were staggered to smooth future appointment cycles. Commissioners indicated unanimous support for the recommended nine-member slate.
Staff emphasized that applicants who were not selected could apply for other openings; Bridal said boards-and-commissions applications will be open July 1–29 and that Jefferson County has “over 30 boards and commissions.” Commissioners thanked the staff and the internal steering committee for their work recruiting and vetting applicants.
No ordinances or regulatory changes were voted on; both items were handled as appointments/recommendations. Staff will follow the county’s standard appointment procedures for finalizing those selections and will submit formal paperwork as needed.
For procedural clarity, Bridal presented the nominations during the staff briefing; commissioners confirmed support on the record and directed staff to proceed with the appointment and with the next steps for the advisory committee.
