On capital requests, staff proposed a SmartNode upgrade to replace roughly 200 CityIQ nodes along State Street with newer sensors that provide higher‑resolution speed, noise and air‑quality data. The presenter said the upgrade would fill a gap in the city’s traffic and environmental data picture and that annual node licensing fees have been rising. The capital list also included an upgraded latex sign printer for in‑house park and event signage production; staff said the current screen‑print setup limits the city’s ability to produce fine‑text or multi‑color signs.
Councilmembers asked about conference and training budgets and were told most travel is local and that the department intends to manage training within a constrained line item. No formal decisions were made; staff will refine cost estimates for the SmartNode replacement and bring back any contract or licensing changes for council review.
