Gilpin County proclaims October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 14 read a proclamation recognizing October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and encouraged residents to observe Wear Purple Day on Oct. 16.
The proclamation, read by Christina Mahoney, the county’s victim services coordinator, said in part that “survivors of domestic violence in Gilpin County and beyond deserve safety, dignity, respect, and access to resources that support their healing and recovery.” It also urged local support for services available to victims.
The county cited a local increase in domestic violence compared with last year and called attention to Porchlight Family Justice Center, a Lakewood-based partner that provides wraparound services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and elder abuse. Mahoney said Gilpin County residents can contact the county victim services office at victimservices@gilpincounty.org for help or referrals.
The board’s reading of the proclamation included reminders about local resources: Porchlight can assist with forensic exams, protection orders and other court-related supports and works with survivors free of charge when they self-identify as victims.
The board did not record a separate roll-call vote on the proclamation during the reading; the proclamation was presented and entered into the meeting record.
