The Town Manager reported on Aug. 7 that the Federal Railroad Administration has designated Quiet Zones for six Jupiter crossings and that the town's Quiet Zone coverage is expected to take effect on Aug. 8. Town staff cautioned that rail operators retain discretion to sound horns in hazardous conditions and that enforcement or operational steps by rail carriers could mean trains still sound horns during initial implementation. The town will have a police presence at crossings to raise public awareness through the first days of the Quiet Zone.
Separately, Utilities staff announced a system-wide maintenance period beginning Tuesday, Aug. 12, through Tuesday, Sept. 2, during which the water-distribution system will receive routine chlorination as part of standard disinfecting practice. Utilities warned customers they may notice a change in taste but said the water remains safe to drink and cook with.
Ending: Staff asked residents to exercise caution near tracks during the Quiet Zone transition and to consult the town website for details about the maintenance program.
