Bonita Springs City Council directed staff to research ownership and options for repairing Kent Road, a roadway used by the YMCA, nearby soccer fields, Nature Place, Callum’s Creek trail access and Pine Lake Preserve.
The council action followed remarks from a council liaison to the YMCA who said Kent Road is a key access route for several public amenities and that residents and facility users have complained about its condition. The liaison reported questions about title and noted the road is not currently a city‑maintained right‑of‑way.
Why it matters: Kent Road provides public access to recreational assets used by residents and visitors. Repairing or repaving the roadway could require title research, survey work and agreements if the road is privately owned. Council directed staff to perform chain‑of‑title work and a site survey to determine rights and options.
City staff cautioned that the road "is not currently a city maintained roadway" and said next steps would include title research and potentially survey work to document rights and assess needed improvements. An initial public‑works assessment indicated the pavement lacks an adequate base and would require more extensive work than a simple overlay.
Council voted to direct staff to research ownership, rights and repair options and to return with information so council can make an informed decision. Roll call recorded unanimous approval. Staff indicated any repair project could require authorization beyond manager spending limits depending on scope and cost.
