DOE seeks to align and clean up multiple NAC chapters to reduce reporting burden and standardize language

The Nevada Department of Education presented a package of proposed regulatory cleanups on Oct. 20, 2025, aimed at aligning definitions and mirroring language among NAC Chapters 387, 388 and 389, updating dated provisions and reducing duplicative reporting.
Director Emilie Tebow said the edits came from the calendar credit and instructional time collaborative and from a review of longstanding language that had not been updated in years. Changes include updating definitions, aligning distance-education and independent-study language, increasing required educator contact in distance education from once a week to three times a week, clarifying credit for equivalent experience, and changing the annual school facilities report to a biennial report to reduce administrative burden and better align with budget planning cycles.
