Jamieson said the new engagement comes at a higher cost than the prior auditor but includes additional services and a shorter expected completion timeline. Logan Aukas, manager with Williams Company (Sioux Falls office), and senior accountant Liam Stuby attended and described the firm's governmental-audit experience and its ability to work with the city's Tyler Technologies accounting system.
Aukas said Williams & Company will begin on-site work in early November and will pursue a year-end completion if practicable but realistically expected completion in January or February if timing or predecessor-auditor transition steps require it. "My goal is still gonna be the end of the year. But if I'm being realistic, it might be January, February," he said. Jamieson and city staff said timeliness is a priority and Amy (city finance/administration) said the auditors have opened their portal and staff are already uploading documents.
Jamieson said the engagement is budgeted at roughly $60,000 for the current audit year, with the expectation that future audits could cost less once processes and systems are aligned and the initial transition work is complete. The commission approved the engagement by voice vote.
