Council approves $4.26 million pay request for Water Reclamation Facility improvements

The Aberdeen City Council approved pay request No. 4 to PKG Contracting for $4,255,921.00 for ongoing improvements at the city’s Water Reclamation Facility.
Amanda Fisher, water reclamation facility superintendent, said the invoice covers work completed in September, with a large portion paying for concrete slab pours, construction of the aeration basin walls and associated piping and geofoam fill. “A large part of the bill this time goes towards the pouring of the concrete of the slab work, to the build out of the large aeration basin,” Fisher said.
Fisher described the project as phased rehabilitation rather than a full rebuild of the 40-year-old plant: crews are completing the aeration basin and piping, then will move to pre-treatment building rehabilitation. She said contractors are finishing the first tier of basin walls and that the next key step is completing ground piping to advance the project.
Vote: Staff recommended the pay request and the council approved it by roll call.
Financial context: The project is a multi-year rehabilitation of aging WRF infrastructure intended to expand hydraulic capacity and extend the plant’s service life; this payment is one of several staged draws to fund the phased construction work.
