Chickasha approves natural gas easement at Lake Chickasha after contract cleanup; councilmember recuses

The Chickasha Mayor and Council authorized the mayor to execute a natural gas pipeline easement to connect to an existing pipeline at Lake Chickasha in Caddo County after staff corrected contradictory language in the agreement regarding an above-ground valve site.

City staff told council members the packet contained two conflicting sentences: one describing a 25-by-50 above-ground valve site and a later sentence saying no above-ground valve sites would exist. Staff said the unintended sentence was removed in an amended easement before the council.

Council members described the item as a new easement that adjoins an existing line rather than a reapproval of a prior grant. At least one councilmember announced an intention to recuse from the vote because of a potential conflict; the record shows that member did not participate in the final vote. The easement vote carried on roll call.

The easement authorizes the connection to the existing pipeline serving Lake Chickasha; staff and council did not discuss construction timelines in detail during the meeting. A city attorney or staff member explained the change in contract language was a correction of a duplication/typo and not a substantive new condition.

The item followed public comment earlier in the meeting in which a resident raised multiple questions about Lake Chickasha, including lease vacancies, lost revenue from unfilled camping or lease spaces and who is responsible for policing and maintenance across county lines. The resident said many seasonal or yearly lease spots appear unfilled and asked the council what the plan is for the lake, but council did not take policy action on those citizen questions during the meeting.
