Board notes several contracts and approves Springfield Middle School rededication plaque

The Wilson County Board of Education received information on four contracts and approved a rededication plaque for Springfield Middle School at its Oct. 20 meeting.

Administrative Services Committee members reported the following contract updates to the full board: an Allred Mechanical Services contract for a 10-ton chiller at Fike High School, $77,445.69; an additional set of bleachers from Smith and Company for $14,000 (bringing that contract's total to $49,275.80); an additional $8,500 to Donald Robinson for assembling teacher furniture at Springfield Middle School (bringing that contract's total to $40,500); and a change order to Berry Building Group for $1,820.09 to make a mechanical closet in the Beddingfield High culinary arts classroom more accessible.

On a separate action, Mr. Brown moved and the board seconded placing a Springfield Middle School rededication plaque as presented by administration. Committee remarks stated that the plaque commemorates reopening the sixth- and seventh-grade wings of Springfield Middle School after damage sustained in August 2024. The chair called for the vote and announced the motion carried unanimously.

The committee also noted that bid openings for Frederick Douglass Elementary had taken place and that a small number of rebids were expected. No additional contract award votes were taken during the public portion of the meeting; the items with dollar amounts were reported as information items to the board.
