Superintendent Mr. Hirsch told the Haysville USD 261 board Tuesday that, after reflection, he will resign and retire at the end of the current school year.
The superintendent described the decision as difficult and repeatedly praised district staff, teachers and the board for their support during his tenure. “After much reflection, it's been, decided that I'm going to resign at the end of the school year, to retire,” he said during his remarks.
Hirsch thanked district leaders, secretarial and administrative staff, teachers, and his family. He said the decision was not driven by conflicts with the board or staff; rather, it reflected personal reflection on timing and next steps. He told trustees he expects the district to identify a successor and expressed confidence the district will continue its work.
The announcement was delivered during the president’s announcements portion of the meeting; the board did not take any formal action related to the superintendent’s statement at Tuesday’s session.
Ending: District staff said they will proceed with the normal superintendent succession processes and keep the board informed of any formal timeline for the transition. No timetable beyond “at the end of the school year” was given in the meeting record.
