Volunteers sought to repair boardwalk; ArborFest and tree giveaway set for weekend

Prospect — Prospect officials asked for volunteer help to repair a city boardwalk damaged in spring flooding and promoted ArborFest and a tree giveaway scheduled for the coming weekend.
Carolyn, reporting for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, said the boardwalk’s first section at Eagles Way was damaged by spring flooding and that lumber has been cut and deck boards will be built for repair. Volunteers — particularly older teens — are asked to meet at Fox Harbor at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, to help haul lumber; volunteers were asked to wear closed-toed shoes, bring gloves and a fully charged electric screwdriver.
Parks staff and volunteers have met with contractors and sought an engineering input report from OHM to ensure bids address all rebuild options. Bids from contractors were expected within about two weeks after the meeting; the committee will then select a contractor for the permanent rebuild of the worse-affected section.
Separately, Linda of the Forestation Board reported that 50 trees will be delivered to City Hall for ArborFest and a fall tree giveaway. Species on offer include October Glory maple, Coosa dogwood, Little Gem magnolia, white oak and Princeton elm; handouts on species selection and deer protection will be available. The Forestation Board also said it plans to clarify street-tree guidance for builders and residents.
Council members thanked the volunteers and contractors involved; no formal decisions or contract awards were made at the Oct. 20 meeting.
