The Lewiston School Committee unanimously approved a student field trip to Merrimack College and Endicott College during the Sept. 8 meeting.
The motion to approve the trip was made by Member Janet Bowden and seconded by Phoenix McLaughlin. Committee members voted unanimously to approve the trip after a brief presentation and a short discussion about whether recurring annual trips should continue to appear on the committee agenda.
Rachel Moore, director of student services, told the committee the trip is the same one the district conducted last year and described logistics: it is a day trip (not overnight), students leave early in the morning and there is no water activity. Moore said the trip is offered based on student interest and college availability; she noted it is the district’s only out‑of‑state school visit among a set of six trips.
Several members said annual, recurring trips need not always come before the committee if they follow policy, but one member urged voting because the item was on that night’s agenda. Member Bowden moved approval and, after a second, the committee voted in favor.
The committee did not attach conditions to the approval and no member requested additional information beyond the trip logistics noted by Moore.
