Elgin ISD staff reported a broad construction update to trustees, outlining progress on bond-funded and other capital projects and a timeline for upcoming bids and site work.
Mr. Rainey, a district facilities presenter, told the board the auditorium is near completion with furniture delivery scheduled and seating for about 1,200. "Overall, this is gonna be a really, beautiful, showcase, for the Elgin ISD community and for the district itself, 1,200 seats," he said.
Journey Ranch Elementary has moved through punch-list work and furniture installation with a ribbon-cutting to be announced. A long-planned transportation facility has begun site work, including grading and detention-pond excavation; contractors expect concrete pours in the coming weeks. The district is also installing roughly 3.5 miles of fiber to connect the Technology Center with Booker T. Washington and Trinity Ranch campuses; staff noted coordination with TxDOT for an aerial crossing that could affect timing.
Middle school No. 2 is at 100% construction-document stage; the district is preparing a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for site work to present in August, with a projected completion date of June 2027. Athletic improvements authorized in the 2024 bond include conversion of fields to artificial turf, four additional tennis courts and a press-box expansion dubbed "Studio E," which will include CTE classrooms; the press-box expansion was trimmed to about 7,350 square feet for budget reasons but will retain broadcast and AV production spaces.
Staff also discussed a nonbond project to repurpose the former Circle Brewery building (the "homestead") for culinary CTE space; the goal is a December construction start and occupancy by fall 2026. Site work for portable classrooms (DAP portables) and smaller maintenance projects across campuses were also reported as progressing, though rain has briefly delayed some paving.
Trustees asked about traffic impacts at the SW 290/Trinity Ranch intersection; staff said TxDOT has funded a traffic signal but the project is not scheduled to be bid until next summer, so the district will route buses differently and coordinate with Bastrop County and Commissioner David Glass to manage traffic for the new campus opening.
No formal board action was required for the update; staff will return to the board for contract awards and GMP approvals on specific projects as those items are ready.
