The Fabens ISD Board of Trustees on June 25 approved the district's 2025'16 nonathletic and extra-duty stipend schedule, including several additions and a small increase for UIL coordinators at the elementary and middle-school levels.
Aida Polanco, director of human resources, presented the slate and said the additions were intended to meet documented campus needs without creating full-time positions. New items included a mentor-teacher stipend for teacher residents, added ELPAC high-school duties, a middle-school yearbook sponsor, and positive behavior intervention supports who will receive two flex days rather than cash.
Trustees discussed the stipend parity for UIL positions. A trustee argued that coordinators perform more work than individual coaches and should be paid more; following discussion, administration recommended increasing the elementary and middle-school UIL coordinator stipend from $500 to $600. The board adopted the change as part of the overall approval.
A motion to approve the 2025'16 nonathletic and extra-duty pay schedule, with the UIL-coordinator adjustment, was made by Mr. Ben Morales and seconded by Mr. Ornelas. Trustees voted to approve the stipend schedule.
The administration said the stipend changes are within the adopted budget and estimated the additional $100 per coordinator would cost approximately $3,200 across the district. Polanco said the changes were designed to reduce the need for hiring separate positions by compensating current staff for additional duties.
