The Fabens ISD Board of Trustees on May 21 approved a summer four-day workweek schedule for employees, as presented by Aida Polanco, the district director of human resources.
"We are proposing, starting June 9 through the 20 seventh that the district be closed on Bridal, and that the employee work hours be 7AM to 5PM. On the week of June 30 through July 3, we would be closed Friday, July 4, and that week would be a regular work week for the staff. And July 7 through July 18, we would resume back to being closed on Fridays and, have our employees work from 7AM to 5PM," Polanco said during the presentation.
Board members moved and seconded the recommendation and approved the schedule without recorded amendments. A trustee asked whether any teachers had yet signed up; Polanco replied that the change applies to employees in general for the specified Fridays, and she did not provide a count of staff who had signed up.
The board approved the schedule by voice vote; the motion passed 7-0. The district did not provide an estimate of operational cost savings or an analysis of student-facing impacts for the approved schedule during the meeting.
Polanco said the administration recommended the schedule for the summer period and noted the district would observe regular work weeks for the holiday week that includes July 4.
