Greenville County Council interviewed candidates for three vacancies on the Greenville Arena District commission and announced three appointments at the committee-of-the-whole meeting.
Applicants who addressed council included Clifton "Buddy" Dyer, who described long ties to the district and past leadership that hired the current general manager; Barry Formanek, who described his finance and treasurer experience on the district board; Dante Russo, a multi-term board member and current vice chairman; Ty Thornhill, Trent Larkins and others. Applicants emphasized institutional memory, finance oversight and plans for upcoming capital improvements at the arena.
After council ballots were tallied, the council announced the three people chosen: Clifton Dyer, Barry Formanek and Dante Russo. Council members noted the board’s stabilization over recent years and ongoing plans for building improvements; several applicants asked to remain on the board to see multi-year projects through.
No ordinance, budget appropriation or management change was adopted during the appointments; councilors said staff and the district board will continue planning for the announced projects.
