Finance committee approves community project grants for camps, Artisphere, sheriff appreciation and radios

Greenville County’s finance committee approved multiple community project applications covering scholarships, event support and equipment purchases.
Mister Lambert presented four applications: $3,906 for summer day‑camp scholarships at two county community centers (Mount Pleasant and Staunton Bridge) to support about 65 campers at each site; a $2,500 request from the City of Greenville to offset police costs for Artisphere; a $5,000 combined request for a sheriff’s office Lead Upstate appreciation event (split $2,500 each from two council members’ community project funds) scheduled for Sept. 19; and a $4,500 request to help the Duncan Chapel Fire District purchase portable radios as part of a roughly $18,550 project.
Each application was moved and approved by voice vote. Council members noted the community value of the sheriff’s appreciation event and the need to support small volunteer fire districts with equipment funding.
Lambert said camp scholarships will cover program costs for June 2–Aug. 1 and estimated roughly 65 children per site; the county will finalize award agreements and begin disbursement to program providers.
