Finance committee approves $2,000 for San Suu Kyi Trail connector to Swamp Rabbit Trail

The Greenville County Finance Committee approved a $2,000 community project allocation from District 19 funds to help build a connector known as the San Suu Kyi Trail Connection that will link to the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Mister Lambert described the project as a 0.1-mile accessibility improvement using a hex-paving mat system that provides a stable surface and traction for users traveling between the Old Bleachery/Franklin Road intersection and the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The total project cost is $23,000: Bike Walk Greenville is providing $12,000, Upstate Greenways and Trails Alliance is providing $9,000, and the District 19 allocation covers the remaining $2,000.
Lambert said the project will be carried out in coordination with the San Suu Kyah Neighborhood Alliance and Greenways Upstate. The committee approved the funding by voice vote.
Chairman July added that the surrounding area is experiencing positive development, citing the Union Bleachery site and local neighborhood efforts to manage engineering and upkeep, and he said that when the neighborhood approached the committee it appeared to be a worthwhile, well-managed project.
No construction schedule, permit requirements, or timeline for completing the connector were provided in the committee discussion.
