Kya Jackson told Greenville County Council about her daughter, Egypt Henderson, who died Feb. 26, 2024, and described nine years of medical care after abusive head trauma. Jackson said she has formed Justice for Shakin' Babies in Egypt Henderson’s memory and asked council to help mark the street where her daughter lived in Greenville with a memorial name.
Jackson said she and her family moved to Greenville 26 years ago and described her daughter’s injuries after an assault in 2015 that doctors described as abusive head trauma. Jackson said her daughter lived for about nine years with severe disabilities and died on Feb. 26, 2024, at 3:37 a.m.
Jackson said she started the nonprofit Justice for Shakin' Babies and that the group’s website is foreveregypt2013.org. She announced a free backpack (book bag) giveaway for kindergarten through fifth-grade children at Unity Park on June 26 and said the organization has been featured on local news and has a pending article in People magazine.
Chairman Benton Blunt and other council members expressed condolences and said staff would help Jackson with the process to request a street name change in the subdivision so the street could be marked in her daughter’s honor. Jackson asked that the memory serve as a reminder to parents not to shake babies.
