At the Mount Holly City Council meeting on Sept. 8, 2025, resident Philip Garrison urged council to install speed bumps in a city‑owned parking lot at the intersection of Highway 27 and North Main Street after observing drivers using the lot as a high‑speed cut‑through near businesses and a dance studio dismissal area.
Garrison said the lot, located behind Arby’s, Encore Dance Productions and Nails by Heli, functions as a bypass around the intersection and that cars exit onto Main Street at high speed. He said children dismissed from the nearby dance studio may be at risk when darting between parked vehicles.
“Drivers are cutting through using it…flying through at a high rate of speed,” Garrison said, and asked the council to consider adding speed bumps to mitigate the danger. Council members acknowledged the concern; one council member asked staff to look into it, and council recorded that Mister Green and staff are already investigating potential fixes.
City staff have not yet presented a formal proposal or timeline for physical changes to the lot; council asked staff to research options and report back.
