At the March 25 meeting the board approved, as part of the consent agenda, the appointment of Karen Arnold as the next principal of Ithaca High School.
Superintendent Doctor Brown described Karen Arnold as a long‑serving district educator who has worked in multiple district buildings and said she volunteered to step into the high‑school leadership role. “Thank you for approving the consent agenda, which included the appointment of the next principal at Ithaca High School,” Doctor Brown said, then named Karen Arnold.
Board members publicly thanked outgoing leaders Martha Hardesty and Jason Trumbull for their long service to the high school, and also acknowledged the resignation of Deb Ptak from a leadership role at the Layman Alternative Community School. The superintendent and board members underscored that transitions have been deliberately managed and praised the incoming principal.
The appointment was made as part of a bundle of routine consent items approved by the board; the meeting record shows the consent agenda motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. One board member indicated a partial abstention related specifically to minutes in the consent packet, but the appointment motion passed and the superintendent and new principal both spoke briefly from the floor to thank the board.
